A new teenage star is quickly becoming the talk of Indian cricket. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, just 15 years old, has taken the Indian Premier League 2026 by storm with fearless batting, putting even top bowlers under pressure.

His performances have been so impressive that reports now suggest he could soon receive a call-up to the Indian team. The upcoming tour of Ireland, which includes two T20 internationals, is being seen as a possible starting point for his international journey.
If selected, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could achieve something remarkable, he might surpass Sachin Tendulkar to become the youngest player ever to represent India in men’s cricket, breaking a record that has stood for 37 years. However, not everyone agrees on rushing him into the national side. Former Australia captain Aaron Finch has shared a balanced view on the situation. He believes that while the youngster is clearly talented, timing will be the key.
Aaron Finch suggested that bringing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi into the squad could be a good idea but only if it is done carefully. He stressed that players who are already performing consistently for India deserve respect and should not be replaced hastily. Representing India, especially after a recent World Cup win, comes with intense pressure and that environment needs to be handled thoughtfully.

At the same time, Aaron Finch acknowledged that opportunities can open up due to injuries or dips in form. In such cases, giving a young player a chance could be worth trying.
More importantly, Aaron Finch emphasised patience. He believes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi should be allowed to grow naturally, continue learning and enjoy his cricket without being burdened by expectations too early. According to him, the young batter already shows signs of maturity, including the ability to adapt his game and come up with different strategies, an impressive quality at such a young age.
Meanwhile, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s name has reportedly been included in a list of 35 T20 specialists prepared by selectors as potential options for upcoming assignments. His inclusion has made him one of the most discussed young prospects in Indian cricket right now.

Selectors are currently considering when and where his debut could happen. Apart from the Ireland tour in June, other possibilities include the Zimbabwe tour in July or even the Asian Games scheduled to be held in Japan.
For now, the excitement around Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to grow. Whether he makes his debut soon or later, one thing is clear – Indian cricket may have found its next big star and the journey is only just beginning.
