Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane opened up after his team’s loss to Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2026, explaining why star all-rounder Cameron Green did not bowl despite being a key player.

Cameron Green, who was bought for a record ₹25.20 crore, played a crucial role with the bat. He scored 79 runs off 55 balls in the first innings, helping KKR reach a total of 180. It was the most impactful innings for the team, especially after they lost three early wickets and struggled to build momentum. Although Cameron Green steadied the innings and attacked under pressure, KKR could not accelerate much in the final three overs.
In the second innings, Cameron Green made headlines again with a brilliant catch to dismiss Shubman Gill. However, he was not fully fit. Ajinkya Rahane revealed that Cameron Green was dealing with cramps, which forced him to go on and off the field. Because of this, he was unable to bowl, something that hurt KKR later in the match.
His absence was felt strongly towards the end, especially when KKR had limited bowling options left. With spinner Anukul Roy proving expensive, the team had to rely on all-rounder Ramandeep Singh for the final over.

Chasing 181, Gujarat Titans managed to secure the win, with Shubman Gill leading the charge with an impressive 86 off 50 balls. Ajinkya Rahane admitted that while it’s difficult to speak immediately after a loss, there were still positives to take away.
He praised Cameron Green’s innings, noting how the all-rounder handled pressure and played attacking shots when the team needed it the most. Rahane also acknowledged that reaching around 180 after being 147 for 4 was not easy and the bowlers did well to push the game till the last over.
Talking about the opposition, Ajinkya Rahane credited both Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan for their batting. He pointed out that KKR’s bowling lengths were not ideal and conditions like dew made things easier for the batters. Still, he avoided making excuses and emphasised that 180 was a competitive total.

KKR’s struggles continue this season, as they have just one point after six matches and are yet to win a game. Ajinkya Rahane stressed the importance of staying focused and not overthinking during tough phases. He said the team needs to stay positive, play with confidence and focus on their strengths rather than worrying about factors beyond their control.
Despite the loss, KKR will look to regroup and come back stronger in the upcoming matches.
