Pressure is building off the field for Rajasthan Royals, even as they continue to stay in the playoff race during the first half of the IPL 2026. The team’s performances have kept them competitive but a series of incidents has put them under unwanted attention.

It started when team manager Romi Bhinder was seen using a mobile phone in the dugout during a match, which raised eyebrows. Just days later, a more serious issue emerged when captain Riyan Parag was caught vaping in the dressing room during a game against Punjab Kings in New Chandigarh.
Taking strict action, the BCCI fined Riyan Parag 25 percent of his match fees and also handed him one demerit point. The move showed that the board is serious about maintaining discipline and standards in the league.

Soon after the decision, head coach Kumar Sangakkara addressed the situation. He admitted that such incidents do not help the team’s environment and confirmed that both the matters have been dealt with by the franchise and the authorities. He also reminded players about the importance of maintaining discipline and respecting the team’s culture.
The issue may not end here. In its statement, the BCCI indicated that it is considering stricter action not just against the player but also the team and its officials to protect the image of the IPL. This was further confirmed by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia who said that discussions are ongoing and no final decision has been made yet.

Despite these distractions, Rajasthan Royals will return to action on May 1 against Delhi Capitals in Jaipur. Kumar Sangakkara also supported Riyan Parag’s performance, pointing out that even though he has had a quiet season, his recent innings against Punjab Kings played an important role in shifting momentum back in the team’s favour.
What is your take on this whole matter and what action should the BCCI take against Riyan Parag and RR according to you?
