Hardik Pandya Little Upset With IPL Getting Batting Dominant, Says Bowlers Feel Hopeless

Hardik Pandya returned to action for Mumbai Indians after missing several matches in the IPL 2026 due to a back spasm. Following Mumbai’s narrow defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Wednesday night, the MI captain shared his views on the changing nature of T20 cricket and admitted that bowlers are finding it increasingly difficult to survive in modern-day IPL matches.

In a rain-affected low-scoring thriller, KKR defeated MI by four wickets to keep their playoff hopes alive. The match saw 14 wickets fall and a total of 295 runs scored, showing how challenging the pitch conditions were for batters. Unlike the usual high-scoring IPL games, the Eden Gardens surface offered help to bowlers, making stroke play difficult throughout the contest.

Speaking after the match, Hardik Pandya said that he enjoyed bowling on a wicket where bowlers finally had some support. He explained that T20 cricket, especially in the IPL, has become heavily dominated by batters, often leaving bowlers with very little margin for error. According to him, pitches like the one in Kolkata create a better balance between the bat and the ball, forcing batters to work harder for runs and rewarding bowlers for disciplined performances.

Despite returning from injury, Hardik Pandya delivered an economical spell of 0/13 in his two overs. However, Mumbai Indians failed to defend their total of 147. At one stage, MI were in control with KKR struggling at 73/3 after nine overs. But the momentum shifted after Mumbai dropped two catches in consecutive overs, allowing Manish Pandey and Rovman Powell to build a crucial 64-run partnership that guided KKR to victory.

Hardik Pandya openly admitted that fielding has been one of the biggest weaknesses of Mumbai Indians throughout the season. He said that the team has dropped several important catches this year and accepted such mistakes become costly in close games. According to him, teams aiming to win matches must take every opportunity, including difficult half-chances, because missed catches often completely change the direction of a game.

The MI skipper also felt his side finished around 20 runs short despite the difficult batting conditions. Taking responsibility for the defeat, Hardik Pandya said both he and Tilak Varma should have stayed longer at the crease to build stronger partnerships. Pandya scored 26 runs off 27 balls, while Tilak made 20 off 32 deliveries. He believed an extra 15 to 20 runs could have given Mumbai Indians a much better chance of defending the target.

Hardik Pandya is certainly saying the right thing as the IPL is completely dominated by batters nowadays but bowlers also deserve even chances, agree?
