The heated rivalry between India and Australia has once again spilled beyond the cricket field, this time during the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). Australian batter Travis Head and his wife Jessica Head reportedly faced severe online abuse after a tense moment involving Virat Kohli during a match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

The controversy began after Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a dominant win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru. During RCB’s chase, Virat Kohli and Travis Head were involved in a verbal exchange on the field. Reports suggest that Travis Head encouraged Virat to play more attacking cricket, which led to a sarcastic reply from the former RCB captain. Kohli reportedly told Travis Head to bowl himself despite playing as an Impact Player.

The tension did not end there. After Virat Kohli was dismissed, Travis Head appeared to make another comment, adding more intensity to the situation. The incident grabbed even more attention after the match when Travis Head tried to have handshake with Virat during the post-match greetings but the latter walked past him while greeting other SRH players.

Soon after clips of the exchange went viral on social media, Jessica Head revealed that the online reaction became extremely toxic. Speaking to an Australian media outlet, she said the abuse extended beyond the players and targeted their friends and family members as well.

Jessica described the situation as a repeat as it is similar to the backlash they experienced after Australia’s victories over India in major tournaments, including the 2023 ODI World Cup final, the World Test Championship final and the 2024 Boxing Day Test. She also mentioned that previous incidents included disturbing threats aimed at their young daughter.
