The Indian Premier League (IPL) has reportedly issued a fresh warning to players, support staff and team officials over the use of smart glasses, sunglasses and high-tech goggles during the tournament. The advisory was shared after the Anti-Corruption & Security Unit (ACSU) informed the BCCI about companies trying to market such devices to individuals involved in the league.

According to reports, these smart wearable devices are capable of live streaming, sending text messages and making audio or video calls using Wi-Fi or mobile data. Officials fear that the technology could be misused during live matches and may create serious integrity concerns for the tournament.

A source quoted by a leading publication said that wearable technology has become more advanced in recent years, increasing fears over hidden communication methods. The report added that the ACSU’s latest action shows the IPL’s effort to stay ahead of possible corruption and security risks in one of the world’s biggest cricket leagues.

The issue comes at a time when the BCCI is already dealing with several protocol-related concerns during the IPL 2026. Earlier this month, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia sent an eight-page directive to all 10 franchises, mentioning incidents involving misconduct and violations by players, team owners, support staff and officials.

In the email, Devajit Saikia warned that such incidents could damage the reputation of the IPL, the franchises and the BCCI itself. He also noted that these actions could expose teams and individuals to legal and security-related problems if not addressed quickly.

Earlier in the IPL 2026, a Rajasthan Royals manager also sparked controversy after being spotted using a mobile phone while sitting next to opening batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the dugout during a live match. The board later penalised the official for the incident.
