Bollywood actor Bobby Deol has said that his mother Prakash Kaur deserves much more credit for shaping him and his siblings than she usually receives.
In a recent podcast conversation, Bobby reflected on his family life and the influence his mother had on their upbringing. He said that many people assume his father, Dharmendra, was the main force behind the family because of his fame and success in the film industry. However, Bobby believes that his mother played the bigger role in raising the children and building their values.
According to Bobby, Prakash Kaur has spent most of her life as a homemaker. He described her as a simple, grounded woman who never got caught up in the glamour that came with Dharmendra’s celebrity status. He also pointed out that she was very young when she married him and remained focused on family life rather than public attention.

Bobby’s comments come during a period in which he has been openly discussing the difficult phases of his career. Before making a successful comeback with Race 3, he experienced a long professional slump where film offers became scarce.
The actor has previously spoken about how that period affected him personally. As work opportunities disappeared, he struggled with uncertainty about his future. Throughout those years, his wife Tanya Deol remained a strong source of support.
In recent interviews, Bobby has acknowledged that Tanya stood by him during some of his lowest moments and helped him get through a challenging phase. He has said that the support of his wife and family was crucial during that time.
While talking about his parents, Bobby also reflected on how responsibilities were divided within the household. As Dharmendra built one of the most successful careers in Hindi cinema, Prakash Kaur focused on raising the children and maintaining stability at home.
Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur married in 1954 before he moved to Mumbai to pursue his acting career. They have four children – sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, and daughters Ajeeta and Vijayta. Dharmendra later married Hema Malini in 1980. Bobby believes that despite decades of public attention on the family, his mother’s contribution has often remained underappreciated.
