Australia once again proved why they are the dominant force in women’s cricket by winning the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 title with a convincing seven-wicket victory over England at Lord’s in London on Sunday (July 5). The triumph extended the Southern Stars’ record to seven Women’s T20 World Cup titles.

After winning the toss, Australian captain Sophie Molineux chose to field first. England posted 150/4 in their 20 overs, thanks largely to skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt, who remained unbeaten on 58. However, Australia’s bowlers kept the hosts from building a bigger total.

Chasing 151, Australia suffered an early setback when opener Georgia Voll was dismissed in the second over. The situation quickly changed as wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney and left-hander Phoebe Litchfield stitched together a superb 100-run partnership for the second wicket. Their stand put Australia firmly in control of the chase.

Phoebe Litchfield played an impressive knock of 48 runs from 35 balls but fell just short of a well-deserved half-century. Beth Mooney, meanwhile, anchored the innings with a composed 64 off 49 deliveries, striking 10 fours. Australia comfortably reached the target in 17.1 overs with three wickets down.

Beth Mooney’s match-winning effort earned her the Player of the Match award. The half-century was her ninth fifty in the Women’s T20 World Cup, drawing her level with Nat Sciver-Brunt for the most 50-plus scores in the history of the tournament.
The left-handed batter also moved closer to another major milestone. She now has 990 runs in Women’s T20 World Cup matches for Australia. Only Alyssa Healy, with 1,008 runs, and Meg Lanning, with 992, have scored more runs for the Southern Stars in the tournament.
