As the controversy surrounding Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja continues to attract attention, former Pakistani actress Somy Ali has now spoken in the actor’s support. She is reportedly the first of Govinda’s former co-stars to publicly back him amid the ongoing criticism.

On Sunday, Somy Ali shared a collage of throwback photographs featuring herself and Govinda on Instagram. Along with the pictures, she wrote a detailed note recalling her professional and personal association with the actor and explaining why she felt the need to support him publicly.
Somy said she has known Govinda both personally and professionally and therefore feels she can speak about him from both perspectives. She praised him as one of the most talented actors in Hindi cinema and described him as one of the most humble people she met during her time in the industry.
The latest controversy began when Sunita Ahuja spoke publicly while promoting Govinda’s upcoming film. Her comments came after Govinda was spotted with actress Komal, whom Sunita had previously accused of having an affair with the actor.

Sunita reportedly referred to Govinda as Komal’s “sugar daddy” and questioned why her 62-year-old husband was being seen with a woman around their daughter’s age. She also took a dig at Komal’s choice of clothing.
Amid these remarks, Somy argued that there was nothing wrong with Govinda working opposite a younger actress. Somy said she has great respect for both Govinda and Sunita but believes an actor should not be judged simply because of the age difference between him and his co-star.
She pointed out that talent does not have an expiry date and that getting work can become increasingly difficult for actors as they grow older. In her view, choosing to continue working despite those challenges should be appreciated rather than mocked. Somy stressed that an actor’s value should be judged by talent, professionalism and dedication to the craft, rather than by the actor’s age or the age of the person playing opposite them.

She also said that when an actor gets another opportunity after facing difficulties in finding work, it should be seen as something positive. According to her, every performer deserves an opportunity to show that they still have something meaningful to contribute. Somy further argued that age should never be turned into a weapon against someone who is simply trying to earn a living and continue doing something they love.

For her, one of the most admirable qualities in an actor is the determination to keep going even when the industry or other people begin suggesting that they are too old to continue. Her comments come as Govinda continues to face public scrutiny, with Somy becoming the first of his former co-stars to openly express support for him amid the controversy.
What is your take on this whole matter?
