Modern cricket has no shortage of world-class batters, with several players making a strong impact across different formats. While some have established themselves as dominant Test players, others have taken limited-overs cricket to another level with their consistency and explosive strokeplay.

Former Australian opening batter David Warner has now shared his choices for the best batters in the world across all three formats and two Indian stars feature prominently on his list.
While replying to a post by England’s Barmy Army on X on Saturday, David Warner named India ODI captain Shubman Gill as the best ODI batter in the world, Abhishek Sharma as the best T20 batter and England’s Harry Brook as the best Test batter.

Harry Brook has impressed with the bat since making his international debut in 2022. The right-handed Yorkshire batter has played 41 Tests, scoring 3,610 runs at an average of 53.08. His Test strike rate of 86.32 is the best in the history of the format among batters who have played at least 30 matches. He has also scored 10 centuries and 20 fifties in 70 innings, with a career-best Test score of 317. During England’s 2026-27 season, Harry Brook has featured in six Tests, scoring 432 runs. He has recorded five fifties in 10 innings during the season.
Shubman Gill, meanwhile, currently occupies the top spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings and has been in outstanding form in the 50-over format. In the recently concluded ODI series against the West Indies, he scored 333 runs in three matches, including one century and an unbeaten double century. His performances earned him the Player of the Series award against Shai Hope-led side.

Since taking over as India’s ODI captain in October last year, Shubman Gill has played 15 matches and scored 938 runs in 14 innings. As captain, he has registered one double century, two centuries and five half-centuries, while maintaining an impressive average of 85.27. Overall, Shubman Gill has accumulated 3,713 runs in 69 innings across 70 ODIs for India, with an average of 64.01 in the 50-over format.
David Warner’s choice of Abhishek Sharma for T20 cricket is also supported by the Indian youngster’s impressive rise since making his international debut. The left-handed batter from Amritsar made his India debut against Zimbabwe in July 2024 and has quickly established himself as one of the most dangerous batters in the shortest format.

Abhishek Sharma has played 62 T20Is, scoring 1,926 runs. He is now just 74 runs away from becoming the fastest player in the world to reach 2,000 T20I runs. In T20Is for India, Abhishek Sharma has scored three centuries and 13 fifties, while also hitting 134 sixes and 185 fours. His ability to score at an incredible pace was on display in the third T20I against Afghanistan in New Delhi last week, when he smashed a 30-ball century. The knock made him the record-holder for the fastest century in international cricket by a player from a full-member nation.
With Harry Brook producing remarkable numbers in Tests, Shubman Gill dominating the ODI rankings and Abhishek Sharma continuing to break records in T20 cricket, David Warner’s choices underline the quality of batting talent currently dominating international cricket.
