Sanjay Dutt has responded to the controversy surrounding his recent comments about peace in India. The actor faced backlash on social media after expressing his wish for greater peace in the country and saying that he could no longer feel that peace. Now, he has clarified that his words were not intended to hurt, offend or disrespect anyone.

On October 4, Sanjay Dutt took to X and issued a clarification about his comments. He said that his remarks needed to be understood in the context in which they were made. He explained that he never intended to hurt or offend any individual, community or institution. He also clarified that the conversation was scripted and was meant to be light-hearted and humorous rather than a serious statement aimed at anyone.
Sanjay Dutt further explained that the main idea behind his comments was to spread a message of love, warmth, togetherness and goodwill. He compared the spirit of the conversation to the humour and satire seen in films like Munna Bhai, especially the concept of ‘Gandhigiri’. According to him, the idea was to use humour to convey positivity, unity and goodwill. He also said that his words were unfortunately understood outside the context in which they were originally spoken.
Sanjay Dutt appeared on Shekhar Suman’s chat show ‘Shekhar Tonite’ for a special Gandhi Jayanti episode. During the show, he spoke about India and expressed his desire to see more peace in the country.

The actor praised the people of India for being kind, large-hearted and hospitable. He said that he wished the country could once again experience a greater sense of peace and added that he prayed to Shivji for those days to return soon.
The conversation later became more humorous when Sanjay Dutt was asked what he would tell the country if he were made the Prime Minister for five minutes. The actor then adopted the familiar vocabulary associated with his iconic Munna Bhai character and delivered a satirical monologue. He joked about foreign travel, political photographs, missiles and tariffs, while repeatedly referring to “Gandhigiri”.
‘Gandhigiri’ became a central theme of Lage Raho Munna Bhai, the popular film associated with Sanjay Dutt’s Munna Bhai character and its message of peace, positivity and non-violence.
