West Indies captain Shai Hope produced a memorable performance against India on Friday, October 9, achieving a rare international cricket record with a brilliant century in the second T20I of the five-match series in Ranchi.

Chasing a challenging target of 250 runs, Shai Hope led from the front with an unbeaten 102 off just 45 deliveries. His outstanding innings helped the West Indies reach the target in 18.3 overs, losing only four wickets and securing a six-wicket victory. With this century, Shai Hope became only the second player in the world to score a hundred in all the three international formats—Tests, One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20Is, against India.
Before scoring his maiden T20I century against India, Shai Hope had already recorded one Test century and five ODI centuries against the Indian team. His latest achievement added another major milestone to his international career.
Australia’s former all-rounder Shane Watson is the only other player to have scored centuries in all the three international formats against India. Shane Watson finished his playing career with one century each in Tests, ODIs and T20Is against the Indian team.

England’s Jos Buttler and Australia’s Glenn Maxwell have also scored centuries in both Tests and T20Is against India. However, neither player has scored a century against India in ODIs.
Shai Hope’s achievement therefore places him alongside Shane Watson in a select group of international cricketers who have reached three figures against India across all the three formats. Shai Hope also became only the second West Indies batter, after Evin Lewis, to score a T20I century against India. Evin Lewis has played nine T20I matches against India and has scored two centuries. He is one of only two batters to have recorded multiple T20I centuries against the Indian team.

Shai Hope’s unbeaten 102 in Ranchi further strengthened his reputation as a key batter for the West Indies in the shortest format of the game. His century was crucial in helping the West Indies complete a remarkable chase of 250 runs against India. The victory marked the highest successful run chase in the T20I history for the West Indies, popularly known as the Men in Maroon. It was also the highest successful run chase by any team against India in men’s T20I cricket.
The West Indies’ six-wicket victory, achieved with nine balls remaining, made the Ranchi match a memorable occasion for Hope and his team. With his historic century and the team’s record-breaking chase, Shai Hope delivered a performance that will be remembered as one of the significant milestones in West Indies cricket.
