A strong partnership is not just about scoring runs but also about understanding each other’s game. Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan demonstrated exactly that during the third T20I against West Indies in Indore on Sunday night, building a century stand that helped India post a match-winning total of 223.
The two cricketers share a close bond that goes beyond international cricket, as they also represent Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Their familiarity with each other has helped them develop an understanding that allows them to bat together comfortably without having to communicate too much.
However, Abhishek Sharma revealed that he makes a special effort to help Ishan Kishan relax when he first arrives at the crease, particularly during the first couple of deliveries. Speaking to reporters after India’s 14-run victory in Indore, Abhishek explained that making Ishan laugh is one way he tries to ease the pressure on his teammate. He noted that Ishan tends to remain focused and serious when he comes out to bat, so he tries to lighten the mood and help him settle in.
Abhishek Sharma also highlighted the strong connection they have developed through their previous partnerships, including those in the IPL. According to him, their shared experience has helped them understand each other’s batting styles and build a natural rhythm at the crease.
Ishan Kishan usually bats at number three, a position where the initial deliveries can sometimes bring additional pressure. Abhishek Sharma says he tries to help his teammate overcome that early nervousness so he can play his natural game. He added that, given Ishan’s performances over the past year or so, the two do not need to spend much time discussing pitch conditions or other factors while batting together. Instead, they focus on enjoying each other’s batting and complementing one another’s strengths.
Their understanding was clearly visible against West Indies, as both the players made valuable contributions to India’s aggressive start. Abhishek Sharma played a blistering knock of 69 runs off just 30 balls, while Ishan Kishan scored 37 runs off 18 deliveries. Their partnership provided India with the momentum needed to post a challenging total of 223.

West Indies fought hard in the chase but could manage only 209/7, allowing India to secure a 14-run victory and take a 2-1 lead in the five-match T20I series. The fourth T20I will be played in Hyderabad on October 14.
With their explosive batting and growing understanding at the crease, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan have given India another encouraging sign ahead of the remaining matches. Their partnership also showed how a strong bond between teammates can make a difference when the pressure is on.
