These 5 inside stories of Abdul Kalam’s Life Are Something Only His Dearest Ones Know

Contribution made by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam to the country is immense and unquestionable whether it is in the field of Defence and Space programs or we talk about his contribution to the society as a citizen.

He became President of India in 2002, till that year he was popularly known as “India’s Missile Man” while after becoming the President, thanks to his simplicity and humility, he came to be known as the “People’s President”. There are ample of reasons for loving him, respecting him and following him, the five stories below will give you one more reason to love the great man:

1. He Just Loved Kids A Lot

2. His Unfulfilled Dream

As per Economic Times, it was stated by Abdul Kalam, “To become an economically developed nation by 2020, India needs to focus on sustainable development of villages by providing urban amenities in rural areas (PURA). The development of 6,00,000 villages is vital for developed India. The foundation of sustainable development of rural areas is PURA which means providing urban amenities in rural areas.”

3. Can You Imagine, He Faced Rejection Too Like We Do

Do you even have an idea what Dr. Kalam always wanted to become? He wanted to become a fighter pilot but he was rejected by the Air Force Academy, Dehradun as he scored 9th rank in the interview process and there were only 8 posts. After getting rejected, he made the decision to work for Directorate of Technical Development and Production (DTDP).

4. He Was Much Concerned For The Environment

“If we do that, birds will not be able to perch on the wall.”

This was said by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, during a discussion at the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) regarding the security methods. He said this when a team member advised to use glass rubble on the wall surrounding a building.

5. An Extremely Humble Man

He was on a visit to a modest school, where he was scheduled to give a speech, just after it was declared that he is going to be the next President of India. His security arrangements were not much back then, so when the power went off while he was delivering speech, he went in between the 400 students and asked them to surround him and then he spoke to the students without mike.
