Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has always been known for being honest and reflective and this year on his 60th birthday, he shared a significant part of his personal life with the public. He introduced his girlfriend Gauri Spratt at a pre-birthday gathering with the media, officially confirming their relationship.
Gauri, who is based in Bengaluru, works with Aamir Khan Films and has a professional background in fashion, styling and photography. She comes from a diverse family, with a Tamilian mother and an Irish father, and is also a mother to a six years old son from a previous relationship.
In a recent interview, Aamir Khan spoke about how therapy has helped him become more emotionally balanced and self-aware. He admitted that Gauri is seeing a version of him that is calmer, healed and at ease compared to the past. This personal growth, according to Aamir Khan, has allowed their relationship to flourish in a healthier way.
Before dating Gauri, Aamir was married to Reena Dutta and later to Kiran Rao. Although both the marriages ended in divorce, Aamir said that there was no bitterness involved in either separation. He described both Reena and Kiran as remarkable women and shared that they still maintain strong bonds of love and respect. Their families often come together and Gauri has been seen at several gatherings alongside Aamir’s ex-wives.
Aamir Khan believes that this sense of closeness and mutual regard is rare and special, made possible because all three of them — Reena, Kiran and Aamir himself, chose to part ways with grace and understanding.
Recalling the end of both the marriages, Aamir Khan revealed that the divorces were handled with simplicity and mutual agreement. They didn’t even need separate lawyers, just one conversation with one lawyer was enough. He emphasised that ending a marriage respectfully is only possible if both the people truly want that outcome.
Aamir also spoke fondly of the continued trust between him and Reena. He shared a moment when Reena called him for help in convincing her father to undergo cancer treatment, something he successfully managed. For Aamir, this kind of trust can’t be forced, it grows naturally when people care for each other beyond marriage.
Recently, Aamir and Gauri made their first public appearance as a couple on the red carpet at the premiere of Sitaare Zameen Par in Mumbai. They were joined by Aamir’s youngest son Azad Rao Khan from his marriage to Kiran. The three posed together for the cameras, marking an important step in Aamir and Gauri’s relationship.
While Gauri is still getting used to the attention that comes with being linked to a Bollywood star, Aamir Khan mentioned that she has only seen a few of his films like Lagaan and Dangal. She has already met many people from his close circle including Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan and has been warmly welcomed by Aamir’s family.
