Pakistani cricket fans are highly disappointed with the performance of their cricket team in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Before the tournament, many Pakistani fans were of the opinion that Babar Azam-led team has the capability to win the T20 World Cup 2024 but their hopes came thrashing down as the Pakistan team lost their first league match to USA.
USA is the co-host of the tournament and it is the first time that USA is playing in the T20 World Cup and getting defeated by them made the former Pakistani cricketers and Pakistani fans feel not just upset but frustrated as well.
However, the defeat against India must be more painful as both the countries are arch-rivals and for majority of Pakistanis, a win against India in the World Cups is bigger than winning the World Cup. What must have hurt more was the fact that Pakistan would have easily won that match, it was a run-a-ball chase and they had to chase the target of only 120 runs. There was a time when Pakistan needed 48 runs to win in 46 balls with 7 wickets in hand but by the end of the match, Pakistan fell short by 6 runs and India’s entry into the Super Eight almost got confirmed with that win.
The Pakistani skipper Babar Azam is currently getting slammed a lot for his captaincy as well as his batting. Recently during a TV show, Pakistani cricketer Ahmed Shehzad came down heavily on Babar Azam and called him a fake King.
In the show, the cricket stats (ICC events) of Ahmed Shehzad and Babar Azam were compared and the former fared better than the current Pakistani skipper in terms of strike rate and average. In fact, Ahmed Shehzad also has a century to his name along with a Player of the Match award.
Ahmed Shehzad didn’t hesitate in ranting against Babar Azam as he said, “Your strike rate is 112 and average is 26. You haven’t hit a single six in 207 balls in the Powerplay. I admit I could’ve improved on my own performances 8 years ago, but your stats are even worse. You are worse than me, but you are king. You’re a fraud king.”
Ahmed Shehzad also alleged that Babar Azam ruined Pakistan’s domestic cricket because the amount of support that he got from the PCB was unprecedented and he has never seen anyone getting so much backing. He also said this about Babar Azam, “He could not bring any trophy for Pakistan. After that you have ruined the entire domestic structure, you are such a captain, you cannot unconventionally run the domestic team to bring in your friends.”
Ahmed Shehzad further said what Babar Azam should do now, “If you cannot do anything then you can at least do this much that now you should raise your hands and say that I had all the support, PCB gave me everything, but I could not deliver, I got the players of my choice but I could not deliver for Pakistan, I am really, really sorry, I am responsible.”
