The 15 years old player has become one of the most exciting talents in world cricket after a sensational IPL season that saw him score close to 800 runs and create history by becoming the youngest ever winner of the Orange Cap.
His outstanding performances convinced selectors to hand him a place in the Indian team, making him the youngest male player ever to receive an India call-up. The decision highlighted just how highly the teenager is rated by Indian cricket authorities.
However, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s success is not limited to the IPL. He has consistently impressed in age-group cricket, domestic tournaments and junior international matches. Most recently, he played a crucial role in helping India win the U19 World Cup, further strengthening his reputation as one of the brightest young stars in the game.
While Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already proven his ability in limited-overs cricket, discussions have now turned to whether he can also succeed in Test cricket. Many believe he has the talent but questions remain about whether he wants to pursue the longest format of the game.
South Africa legend AB de Villiers, widely regarded as one of the greatest all-format batters in the cricket history, praised Vaibhav’s ability but admitted that only time will reveal what path the youngster chooses. ABD said there is no doubt that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi possesses the talent and skill needed to succeed in red-ball cricket if he decides to focus on it.
The former South African captain also noted that Test cricket comes with its own challenges. However, he believes Vaibhav has the ability to overcome those obstacles and develop into a successful player in the format. De Villiers added that he hopes the teenager gives Test cricket a serious chance, although he is unsure whether it will happen.
Despite those questions, ABD strongly supported the selectors’ decision to include Vaibhav in the national setup. He praised them for making a brave call rather than choosing a more experienced player.
According to AB de Villiers, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already earned his place through exceptional performances and fully deserves the opportunity to represent India in T20 cricket.
