Many people have slammed the BCCI and the cricketers for playing the IPL in these tough times. Abhinav Bindra, the Olympic gold medalist, also feels that the IPL 2021 should be given less importance in this critical period. The 38 years old shooter also said that he chose to scroll past all the posts regarding the IPL as he can’t relate to it at the moment. Bindra has categorically written in his column for a leading daily that the real heroes are the frontline workers who are saving lives and not the sportspersons.

Abhinav Bindra further writes that the IPL may be getting played in bio-bubble environment but the cricketers and officials just can’t be oblivious to what is happening outside the tournament. He also writes that he can just imagine when these IPL games are being played, ambulances must be running outside on the roads taking patients to the hospitals. He says that he has no idea as to how the tournament is getting covered but he will like it to be a little muted.

Abhinav Bindra feels that the cricketers who are playing in the IPL should also fulfill the responsibility of educating people about the importance of taking safety precautions such as wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, etc. He goes on to write that if he had been the President of the BCCI, he would have left no stone unturned in contributing in the best possible manner in the vaccination campaign.
