India’s clash with Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2025 on September 26 in Dubai turned out to be a memorable contest, especially for Indian fans. The game witnessed fireworks from India’s top order and once again, Abhishek Sharma stole the spotlight with another remarkable innings that highlighted his extraordinary form.
Opening the innings for India, the world’s No. 1 T20I batter Abhishek Sharma smashed a brilliant 61 runs off just 31 deliveries. His knock included eight crisp fours and two towering sixes, giving India a flying start. He reached his half-century in only 22 balls, bringing up the milestone with a boundary against Nuwan Thushara in the sixth over.
With this innings, Abhishek Sharma became the third Indian after Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma to cross fifty in under 25 balls on six occasions in T20 internationals. His consistency has been phenomenal and this match added another feather to his cap. The 24 years old cricketer equalled Rohit’s record of seven consecutive scores above 30 in T20Is, a feat previously achieved only by Rohit and Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan.
Abhishek Sharma also scripted history in the Asia Cup. He needed just 34 runs to surpass Rizwan’s record of 281 runs in a single edition and he achieved it with ease during the fifth over against Dushmantha Chameera. By the end of his innings, he became the first player to score over 300 runs in one Asia Cup T20I tournament.
Globally, Abhishek Sharma joined an elite list of batters from full-member nations who have crossed the 300-run mark in a T20I series or tournament. This group includes Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan and Mahela Jayawardene, India’s Virat Kohli, Australia’s Aaron Finch, Pakistan’s Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, and England’s Phil Salt.
Adding to his remarkable run, Abhishek Sharma has now scored three consecutive fifties for India in the Asia Cup 2025, making him the sixth Indian batter to achieve this after Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer. With such form, Abhishek Sharma is not just rewriting records but also establishing himself as the backbone of India’s T20 batting lineup.
Well played India and keep it up Abhishek Sharma!
