Adam Gilchrist Feels It’s Time For Rohit Sharma To Draw Curtains On His Test Career

The two senior Indian cricketers – skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are seriously getting criticised a lot as their batting performances in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy was far below than their standards. While many feel that Virat Kohli can still bounce back as he is quite fit, the majority of fans and former cricketers feel that Rohit Sharma should take retirement from the longest format.

The former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist also believes that Rohit Sharma’s time in Test cricket might be coming to an end. He feels that the 37 years old batter is unlikely to travel with team India for the five-match Test series in England starting June 20 in Leeds.

Rohit, who has been India’s top run-scorer in the World Test Championship (WTC), has struggled with his form in the recent series. He managed just 91 runs in three home Tests against New Zealand and scored only 31 runs across five innings in the three matches he played under the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. His poor performance led him to skip the fifth Test, which India lost by six wickets in just three days.

Adam Gilchrist suggested that Rohit could be reconsidering his future in Test cricket after returning to India, especially since he has personal commitments with his newborn baby. He hinted that while the new family responsibilities might motivate Rohit to step back, they could also push him to continue playing. Rohit’s Test career began impressively with two centuries in his debut series against West Indies in November 2013.

The former Australian wicketkeeper, who won three ODI World Cups, also shared his thoughts on Rohit’s ODI career, suggesting that the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 might be his final appearance in the 50-over format. Rohit had earlier dismissed speculation about his retirement during a January 4 interview, affirming his intention to continue playing.

While doubts remain about his Test future, Rohit is expected to lead India in the ICC Champions Trophy starting February 19, with India currently ranked as the world’s top ODI team.
