Reservation in various fields is very common in India and needless to say, a number of people are against the same and want it to be stopped, as it’s no less than an obstacle which stops the deserving to obtain a post or seat, in terms of admission in good colleges and govt. jobs. Often, we come across posts on social media which are intended to encourage people to put an end to reservations and many individuals are desperate for it too; however, the sad part is, reservation appears to be the pest which is increasing by leaps and bounds, hollowing the country from within and the recent announcement by Air India proves it!!
Yes, Air India seems to be determined of bringing reservation in the field of airlines too when it lately made a declaration according to which six seats would be reserved for women passengers from 18th January.
As reported by ANI, travelers would not have to pay extra for booking such seats. Even though these kinds of reservations for ladies, differently abled and old people are available on metros and buses, it’s probably for the first time that an airline has taken a step like this.
Air India starts seat reservation for women. 6 seats on every domestic flight to be reserved for women from Jan 18
— ANI (@ANI) January 12, 2017
The Hindu was told by Meenakshi Malik, Air India general manager, revenue management,
“We will be reserving the third row — six seats — in the economy class of the aircraft fon or female passengers travelling alone.”
She further added,
“We feel, as national carriers, it is our responsibility to enhance comfort level to female passengers. There are a lot of female passengers who travel alone with us and we will be blocking a few seats for them.”
Here it’s necessary to mention that this announcement was made just few days after Flight Stats, an aviation insights company, regarded Air India as the world’s third worst airline; nevertheless, the airline’s spokesperson disagreed to the report and called it “fabricated”.
As usual, Twitterati already started reacting over the matter and here’s what they have to say….

Modern day sexism..
Dear @airindiain. As a woman, this is insulting. My gender doesn't make me an invalid. This is what modern day sexism looks like https://t.co/BydLuz5vMt

Bang on!
Dear Air India,
I don't want reserved seats. I want cleaner seats. Please look into it.

Well said!
Is there any other country like #India where policy makers think that #reservation is a good policy? #AirIndia reserves seats for #women.
