Anti-Romeo:Cops Detained Cousin Bro-Sis & Took Bribe To Free Them. What Happened Next Is Lesson For Cops

Ever since Yogi Adityanath took the oath of the new chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, he took few strong decisions and anti-Romeo squad was one of them. There is no denying the fact that the squad was made with a noble intention of putting an end to eve teasing which is among the biggest problems in the state.

However, this good initiative seems to have gone wrong, as few instances have come to light which are no less than a disgrace to the anti-Romeo squad. For example, there have not been many days when they took a brother and sister to the police station and released them only when their parents confirmed that they were siblings.

A similar sort of incident has taken place in Rampur but policemen have gone too far this time. Two cops allegedly detained a guy and his cousin (sister) in the name of anti-Romeo drive, harassed them and then took bribe to set them free. Sounds sickening, doesn’t it?

As per SP KK Chaudhari, it was on 26th March that SI Sanjeev Giri along with a constable named Vimal took the siblings (both nearly 18 years old) into custody at a time when they visited Rampur from a village named Hashmat Ganj for buying medicines. According to Chaudhari,

“The policemen said they had taken action against them under the anti-Romeo operations and they were kept at a police station for over five hours.”

SP Chaudhari added that the concerned cops denied freeing the cousins despite the fact that their relatives confirmed that they were merely brother and sister and other than this, there was no relation between them.

As per reports, a demand of Rs. 5,000 as bribe was made by the cops for setting the siblings free. Their demand was fulfilled but at one fell swoop, relatives also recorded the cops taking bribe and approached Baldev Singh Aulakh, minister and local MLA, and informed him. Aulakh later told SP Chaudhari about it and subsequent to watching the video and carrying out preliminary investigation, both the policemen were suspended on Monday.
