Ashish Nehra Slams Indian Selectors For Dropping Prithvi Shaw After Just One Test Match

The young Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw was having a great time in the IPL 2021 as he had scored 308 runs in the 8 matches that he played before the tournament was postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic. Shaw scored three fifties in the league which also includes his smashing knock of 82 against Kolkata Knight Riders and he averaged 38.50 with the strike rate of 166.48. Shaw was playing so well that he was at the fourth spot in the list of batsmen who were aiming for the Orange cap.

However, things were not so good for Prithvi Shaw last year as he had a pretty dismal IPL 2020 and he was also dropped from the playing XI after playing the first test match against Australia during the Australian tour. In the first test match against Australia which was played at Adelaide, Prithvi Shaw scored 0 and 4 in both the innings and some former cricketers also talked about a fault in his technique, saying that he needs to rectify it if he wants to be successful at the international level.

Prithvi Shaw’s superb performances in Vijay Hazare trophy and the IPL 2021 prove that he has worked pretty hard in order to regain his form but still he didn’t get the call for the Indian test team which is going to play the finals of the ICC World Test Championship and the England tour in which team India is going to play five test matches.

The former Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra has now opened up on the matter of Prithvi Shaw getting dropped by the Indian selectors after the Adelaide test match and said that dropping him just after one test match was tough. According to Nehra, it is not easy for any player to adjust as far as the technique is concerned and Shaw is a youngster, not one of those players who have a lot of experience or who have played 30-40 matches in long format. Nehra adds that though India won the series in Australia, he feels that Shaw shouldn’t have been dropped after one test match.

On the matter of Shaw getting replaced by Ajinkya Rahane in the finals of the IPL 2020 that Delhi Capitals played against Mumbai Indians which the Mumbai franchise won, Nehra said that though Prithvi Shaw didn’t manage to make big score, he played few good innings and if it is about choosing between Shaw and Rahane, he will definitely support Shaw. Nehra goes on to say that he doesn’t mean to say Rahane is not a good player but when it comes to T20 cricket, a team needs to have hard-hitters like Shaw, Pant, Hetmyer and Stoinis.
