The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced a series of key appointments and governance decisions during its annual conference in Edinburgh, with BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia receiving two major roles.
Devajit Saikia has been appointed chairman of the ICC’s newly-formed Governance Review Committee, which will oversee governance-related matters. The committee also includes Cricket South Africa’s Dr Mohammed Moosajee and ICC Independent Director Dr Ros Rivaz.

The BCCI secretary has also been named a member of the newly-created Franchise Leagues Committee, chaired by former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal. Other members of the panel include Cricket Namibia’s Dr Rudie van Vuuren, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chief executive Richard Gould, and Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg. The committee has been formed as the ICC increases its focus on the growing global franchise cricket ecosystem.
Among the major decisions taken at the conference, the ICC approved a USD 12.82 million loan to Cricket West Indies to help meet the board’s cash flow requirements.
The ICC also reviewed the progress made by Sri Lanka Cricket in adopting a revised constitution. While acknowledging the steps taken so far, the governing body said elections should be held as soon as possible. Until then, Sri Lanka Cricket will continue to remain barred from representation at ICC Board meetings.

In another administrative move, the ICC ratified the appointment of Bangladesh Cricket Board president Tamim Iqbal as the Full Member Director on the ICC Board.
The governing body also expanded its global membership by admitting Mauritius as its 111th member.
Meanwhile, Cricket Canada’s suspension will remain in place until it meets the required governance standards. France Cricket has also been placed on notice for breaching the ICC’s Membership Criteria, with the governing body warning that further action could be taken if the issues are not resolved.
