Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma’s marriage ended in the year 2024 after months of private strain. Though the couple appeared united on social media, they were quietly heading toward separation. By the time their divorce was finalised, public interest had surged, especially after Chahal appeared at the final hearing wearing a t-shirt that read, “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy”. That moment went viral and now Chahal has finally shared the story behind it.
While speaking in a podcast, Yuzvendra Chahal clarified that the t-shirt was not meant to stir controversy. Instead, it was a personal message, a response rather than a provocation. He explained that he had no intention to create drama but something had happened from the other side that pushed him to make a subtle statement. Without going into specific details, Chahal hinted that the actions of Dhanashree or her circle prompted his reaction. He emphasised that he never used abusive language or tried to escalate matters but simply wanted to express himself with that one message.
Yuzvendra Chahal revealed that the divorce process itself involved a challenging financial settlement. He admitted that he had signed a favourable deal during the negotiations and wanted to close that chapter of his life quickly. Something that occurred during this time made him feel even more justified in wearing the symbolic t-shirt, which for him was about setting the tone that he was done trying to please anyone.
Reflecting on the relationship, Chahal openly shared that both he and Dhanashree had chosen to hide the cracks in their marriage from public. When asked if that meant they were faking the relationship for the cameras, Yuzvendra Chahal didn’t hesitate to agree, saying it was true. He also revealed that he hasn’t spoken to her since the 2024 World Cup and their last interaction was over a video call related to their court proceedings, about six months ago.
When questioned whether he believed the marriage could have worked, Chahal simply said that he had given it his all. He made it clear that he has no regrets, having done everything he could from his side.
