SRK, the Bollywood Superstar talks about the release of ‘FAN’ and at the same time tells how he took a chance with this movie. The superstar adds that he wished to take show the audience something different. SRK says FAN is not something which masala movie likers would like. However, a chance was taken, thinking the audience would like it.
What the audience would like to see!
In the 20 year long career of SRK, he is known for giving out several blockbusters like ‘Happy New Year’, ‘Chennai Express’, ‘Swades’, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ and many more. His movies ‘Chak De! India’ and “Swades’ didn’t do great at box office in comparison with others. Shah Rukh states his movie ‘Dilwale’ has dance, flying cars and everything the audience likes. The idea behind making a particular film is that everybody should watch it.
We must have the guts to present something new to the audience!
SRK further says that he had told Ashutosh Gowariker during ‘Swades’ that the movie wouldn’t make much business as audience wouldn’t accept it well. However, he had guts to make the movie with the star. SRK adds “I think this is what we should celebrate. When a new kind of filmmaker comes, and makes something different with new people as he doesn’t have access to others (stars), I really appreciate that. I think it is more appreciated when an established director, producer, star does something unusual like ‘Fan,”
SRK chooses to do something different always!
SRK says that he always chooses to opt for something different. He feels this enhances the way to make cinema. As per SRK, there are 2 kinds of audience, 1 who enjoy commercial films and one who enjoys offbeat films.
He knew people wouldn’t like FAN!
SRK was aware that heartland audience wouldn’t accept FAN as its not a typical Shah Rukh Khan movie. He states that “Language is a barrier, not everyone watches English, Spanish film. So, when you make a film like this (‘Fan’), you know the film is not going to be universal, the heartland people are not going to understand. I don’t think anyone is hypocrite in this,”
SRK feels disappointed when both commercial and usual films don’t earn more. FAN has managed to collect only 68 crores as of now. The movie portrays the story of Gaurav, a huge fan of Aryan Khanna, the movie star, who moves to Mumbai for wishing on his birthday. However, when things aren’t as per the plan, the obsession of Gaurav crosses limits. This is a fantasy like movie says SRK.
However, SRK doesn’t consider numbers, all he wants is doing something different!
