One Facebook post can do wonders and the latest example to prove this is Harendra Singh Chauhan from Noida, now he doesn’t need to sit with a weighing scale on the footpath to earn money for his education. Vikas Sharda, a citizen of Noida city clicked a picture of Harendra sitting on pavement with his weighing scale and posted it on Facebook with a description. The picture went viral and a number of individuals and organizations came forward to help Harendra.

The Chief Minister of the state, Akhilesh Yadav, himself took notice of the incident and gave a cheque worth Rs. 5 Lakhs to Harendra so that he can focus on his studies and doesn’t need to sit on the pavement in the future.

Harendra was invited at CM’s residence in Lucknow and he was felicitated at an event organized there. Harendra told TOI, “I am grateful to the chief minister. However, I do not want any other help as now that my father has got a job, I am confident he will be able to support me and my family.”

N P Singh, District Magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar also offered a helping hand to Harendra and offered him a bicycle which was refused by the ninth standard boy.  DM has also instructed the administration to keep an eye on the educational needs of Harendra, he told TOI, “As and when required, we will pitch in with funds for his education so that he can achieve his goals. The money given by the CM will be kept in a fixed deposit account so that the interest generated from the amount can be utilized as a steady source of funds for Harendra’s education.”

Vikas Sharda has shown people that social media can be used for such good purposes also and we should try to make this platform more and more beneficial for other people as well as for ourselves too.
