Royal Challengers Bengaluru finisher Tim David gave fans a moment to remember during their IPL 2026 clash against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
It happened on the last ball of the 19th over. CSK all-rounder Jamie Overton bowled a short delivery into Tim David’s body. In a flash, Tim David smashed it towards deep square leg. The ball seemed to fly over the stadium roof. What made it unforgettable was Tim David’s reaction, he calmly signaled a six like an umpire by raising both hands and then cheekily waved “bye-bye” to the ball.

That moment summed up what was arguably his best IPL innings. Tim David hammered 70 runs off just 25 balls, including 3 fours and 8 sixes, making it one of the joint-second fastest knocks in the tournament’s history.
He built a stunning 99-run partnership in just 35 balls with Devdutt Padikkal, one of the quickest partnerships of 30+ balls in the IPL. Their explosive batting powered RCB to 250/3, the highest total ever against CSK in the IPL history.

Speaking during the mid-innings break, Devdutt Padikkal explained the approach. He said that the pitch felt slightly slow early on and the new ball wasn’t coming nicely. The plan was simple, preserve wickets early and attack hard in the final 5–6 overs, especially at Chinnaswamy where scoring quickly is possible. He also admitted that setting a target here is tough and momentum plays a huge role.
Tim David’s innings also answered recent comments from CSK coach Stephen Fleming, who had suggested that traditional finishers are fading in modern T20 cricket. Tim David proved otherwise, showing how a specialist finisher can still dominate and dismantle death-over strategies.
What an innings!
