Yes, you can fetch gold from your old phone, computer and TV so don’t consider them as waste if they stop working or get out of use when you purchase a new one. In fact, the 7% of whole world’s gold is present in these old mobile phones, TVs and computers.

Tonnes of gold can be obtained from the printed circuit boards which are fitted inside these electronic devices. What’s more, the extraction of gold will also now become easier as the researchers have found a new and simple chemical method.

The methods which are used for extracting gold in present times are not only cumbersome but also dangerous as cyanide is used in them, but the new method is easier as well as non-dangerous since no hazardous chemicals are used.

As per the researchers from the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, the new extraction method will result in positive impact on environment as it will reduce the gold mining and also cut the carbon dioxide emissions.

Going by the estimation of these researchers, it will also help in saving 300 tonnes of gold which is used in electronic devices per year. In this new extraction method, first these circuit boards are kept in a soft acid mixture, which will dissolve all the metal parts and then an oily liquid will be added to the mixture to extract the gold.

We are sure that from now on, you will be more considerate towards your electronic devices, won’t you? Don’t forget to share your views with regard to the article in the comments section below.
