In a bid to make sure that the authentic travelers get confirmed tickets, Indian railways have doubled up the cancellation charges on the ticket.

As per the new rules for getting refund, after the departure of train no refund will be paid and the person has to get refund four hours before departure. It is said that the new refund rules will come in action from November 12.

The cancellation fee of Second class confirm ticket will increase from Rs.30 to Rs.60 in the time limit of 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train while for Third AC, cancellation fee will be Rs.180, it is Rs.90 at the present.

As per the new rules, for those passengers whose ticket are in waiting or RAC (Reservation against cancellation), they will need to take refund with half an hour before the scheduled departure of the train or there will be no refund.

As per the new announcement made today, the cancellation fee of Second Sleeper class confirm ticket will increase from Rs.60 to Rs.120 while Second AC cancellation fee has increased to Rs.200 from rs.100.

A senior railway ministry officer told that the changes have been brought in Railway Passengers (Cancellation of Ticket and Refund of Fare) Rules, 2015, in order to reduce the chances of misuse and getting rid of black marketing of railway tickets.

Earlier the cancellation fee was 25% if the ticket is cancelled between 48-6 hours before the scheduled time of the train and now the time limit is 48-12 hours and the cancellation fee was 50% between 6-2 hours before the scheduled departure of the train while now the time limit is 12-4 hours.

Railway is also planning to set up some unreserved counters so as to facilitate the refund of reserved tickets to the consumers.
