We all know that China has always been supportive to North Korea when it comes to fighting against US. However, now China has warned North Korea and said that it would not extend any support if it launches missiles to threaten US and if there’s retaliation.
This was published by Global Times, a famous English newspaper; experts say that the statements are reflective of the stance of Chinese government.
The op-ed also reads,
“If the U.S. and South Korea carry out strikes and try to overthrow the North Korean regime and change the political pattern of the Korean Peninsula, China will prevent them from doing so.”
However, China said that if Washington strikes first, it would continue to support North Korea and intervene if needed.
China gave this warning after politicians and government leaders urged calm after many threats by North Korean and US governments. These threats have spread jitters and might impact the global financial market also; in fact, the market was down on Friday too.
Time and again, China has warned Pyongyang and Washington to not do anything that would lead to instability or raise tensions on Korean Peninsula.
This Op-ed reflects China’s delicate relation with North Korea. China has always provided military assistance to North Korea. Both the countries have signed the mutual defense treaty in 1962. China remains to be North Korea’s primary trading partner and also the main source of energy and food.
If there’s a war between US and North Korea and if China was drawn in, its economy would be devastated.
