He was a student of Kalighat’s South Point High School (Kolkata). As per reports, the boy had asked his mom to leave him alone for sometime as he was studying chemistry. This is when he locked himself and ended his life.

Parents also said that the boy was suffering from bipolar disorder, a depressive state of mind in which moods keep swinging. His mom said that since the time he watched Annabelle: Creation, he was obsessed with his phone. Officials didn’t find any suicide note as such. It is suspected that he must have hanged himself due to depression.

Reports say,

“Around 9pm on Monday, Srijan Chowdhury, 17, asked his mother for her pho ne and told her he was going to his room to study. His mother, a law officer with Metro Railways, was watching TV in the adjacent room. An hour later, when he did not reply to knocks on the door after dinner was served, she called neighbours who forced through the door to find Srijan hanging from the ceiling fan. He was taken to Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan where he was declared dead. His father, a CESC engineer, was not at home at the time.”

As of now, no complaint has been lodged. Srijan’s mom feels that the horror movie might be responsible for the suicide but the psychiatrist Jay Ranjan Ram, who had treated him feels that this could be due to bipolar disorder; yes, patients having bipolar disorder often resort to suicide.

Why that Annabelle connection?

Srijan’s mom said that when he came home after watching the movie, he kept telling her that whoever watches the film commits suicide. His mom said,

“I asked him not to think about the movie and concentrate on his studies. But he had been behaving a bit abnormally since the day.”
