Undoubtedly, Indian skipper Virat Kohli is a spectacular player and a good captain too. Considering the same, it’s not at all surprising that he is among the richest athletes across the globe.
His brand value increased further after he and his team performed well between November 2016 and March 2017; not to forget to mention that during this period, Kohli scored four successive double centuries in test matches. He is the only Indian to appear in the Forbes’ list of the richest athletes among all the sports. The top spot on this list is secured by footballer Cristiano Ronaldo.
The total pay of Virat Kohli (28) is USD 22 million and he is on the 89th rank in the 2017 Forbes list of “The World’s highest paid athletes”. The major part of his pay which is USD 19 million comes from endorsements while the remaining USD 3 million is from his salary and incentives for winning games. He has been termed as “Indian cricket phenom” by the magazine which also says that it is no surprise if he is being compared with Sachin Tendulkar, who is considered as the God of cricket.
Virat Kohli is also among the highest earning players of Indian Premiere League as he gets paid USD 2.3 million by Royal Challengers Bangalore in each season and in 2016, he earned almost USD 1 million in salary and match fees for playing for the country. Forbes stated,
“The vast majority of his income, however, comes from one of the sports world’s most impressive sponsorship portfolios.”
The magazine said that all the 100 players earned USD 3.11 billion in total in the last one year. The income of the players comprises of salaries, prize money and incentives earned in the period from June 2016 to June 2017. Athletes from 21 countries are featured in the list which is dominated by the Americans with 63 players belonging from Major League Baseball, National Football League and National Basketball Association.
