The skipper of Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni did a special lap of honour on 14 May after the match against Kolkata Knight Riders which was played at the Chepauk stadium as Dhoni wanted to thank fans for the support and love that they have showered over the years. It was the last match of CSK on their home ground in the IPL 2023, though they may come back for the play-off yet nothing can be said with confirmation in this regard as of now.
Cricket fans and experts were making speculations regarding MS Dhoni’s retirement from the IPL even before the start of the IPL 2023, while many felt that he would retire after this season, there are few who thought that he would play one more season. However after the lap of honour that MS Dhoni did, it seems that it is his last season in the IPL as a player. The former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar also took MS Dhoni’s autograph on his shirt when he came to know that the CSK skipper was going to do a lap of honour.
Earlier, a CSK official has stated that MS Dhoni hasn’t informed them about his decision regarding retirement. He further says that there is no pressure on MSD and as he is the leader, he will do only what is good for the team. The official adds that the management will completely support MS Dhoni if he wants to continue in the next season as well.
While every Dhoni and CSK fan was a little upset after the lap of honour because it indicates that it is the last season of MSD as a player, the CEO of CSK, Kasi Viswanathan has given a hope to Dhoni fans as he says that he feels MSD will play the next season as well and he hopes that fans will keep on supporting the team as always.

Harbhajan Singh who has also played for CSK has expressed his sentiments in this regard. He says that MS Dhoni has stopped the time and he is looking his old self. Turbanator goes on to say that though Dhoni is not able to run at his full speed, he is hitting big shots easily and he is looking lethal with bat. Bhajji requested Dhoni not to hurt their feelings by taking retirement after this season.
