As Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) move closer to their long-awaited maiden IPL title, emotions among their loyal fanbase are reaching fever pitch. Reflecting the deep-rooted connection between the team and its supporters, a devoted fan from Karnataka has taken an extraordinary step to honor the franchise.
Shivanand Mallannavar, a resident of Belagavi district, penned a heartfelt handwritten letter addressed to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, requesting that June 3, the day of the IPL 2025 final, be declared a public holiday, if RCB emerge victorious.
The letter, which has now gone viral on social media, proposes that the day be officially recognised as an “RCB Fans’ Festival,” akin to the state’s celebrated Karnataka Rajyotsava. In his appeal, the fan suggested the holiday be observed annually, celebrating RCB’s potential historic triumph and providing an opportunity for fans across the state to participate in organised festivities.
The request even extended to seeking government support in enabling public celebrations throughout all districts of Karnataka, highlighting just how much this potential victory means to RCB’s massive and passionate fan base.

This season has seen a resurgent RCB, led by Rajat Patidar, turning heads with their consistent performances. Winning nine out of their 14 league matches, the team secured a spot in the top two and went on to seal their place in the final after a commanding win over Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 on May 27. The victory has reignited hopes among fans that 2025 could finally be the year the franchise lifts its first IPL trophy, breaking an 18-year-long title drought.
Even before their entry into the final, RCB fans had already showcased their undying loyalty. During the rain-ruined match against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 17, thousands of supporters turned the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium into a sea of white in tribute to Indian cricket icon and former RCB captain Virat Kohli, who recently retired from Test cricket. Wearing No. 18 shirts, fans braved the downpour to honor Virat Kohli’s legacy, despite the match being completely washed out.
With RCB now just one step away from fulfilling a dream that has eluded them for nearly two decades, the fanfare around the team has taken on a celebratory, almost ceremonial tone. Whether or not the Chief Minister responds to the public holiday plea, one thing is certain, the people of Karnataka and RCB supporters across the world are ready to erupt in joy if their team finally brings the IPL trophy home.
