The controversy over Deepika Padukone leaving Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film ‘Spirit’ has started again and this time Deepika has given a silent but strong reply.
Recently, Sandeep’s brother Pranay Reddy Vanga, who is also a producer of Spirit, gave an interview where he made several claims about why Deepika Padukone left the film. He said Deepika had demanded a share in the film’s profit, had problems with shooting dates and timings, and had even leaked the film’s story and script.
Deepika has not given any official statement on this. However, she has responded in her own way. She ‘liked’ an Instagram post made by journalist Janvi Manchanda who strongly criticised the Vanga brothers.
The post that Deepika Padukone liked said that Deepika had reportedly asked for 10% of Spirit’s profit but the way the makers reacted, it looked like she had asked for the whole film and Vanga estate. The post said this looks like a full male-ego problem. A woman said no to a deal and they could not handle it.
The post further said that Deepika’s demands are not something new in the film industry. Male actors have been asking for profit share, fixed working hours and other good working conditions for many years. When a man asks for such things, he is called disciplined and professional, but when a woman asks for the same, she is called difficult.
The journalist also pointed out that Deepika Padukone has mostly stayed quiet on this issue but the Vanga brothers are still talking about her even after many months since the deal was cancelled. The post ended by saying that this is not about professionalism at all, it is about misogyny, s*xism and male ego, and that they should just accept that she said no and move on.

What did Pranay Reddy Vanga actually say?
In an interview, Pranay said the reasons for Deepika Padukone’s exit were the same as what was told earlier. One reason was her fees and the second was her timing and schedule. He said there were a few other reasons too which he could not remember at that moment but there were multiple issues and finally it was Sandeep’s decision to let her go.
He added that Deepika Padukone had asked for 10% from the film’s profit. After that demand, everything went out of control. He said she has the right to ask for anything and if the makers want to give it, they can. But the budget and economics of the film should also make sense for them. They felt her demand was not working out financially, so they started looking for other actresses.
He also made a serious allegation that once they started looking for other options, Deepika’s side started leaking information. He claimed they had discussed the story and her character with her in private and such internal discussions should not be made public but she leaked everything and this is why they are upset. Deepika Padukone has not yet responded to this particular claim about leaking the story.
