Cricket matches often turn on fine margins and during a tense Women’s Premier League clash, one such moment put Delhi Capitals batter Lizelle Lee in the spotlight. The wicketkeeper-batter was fined 10 percent of her match fees and handed one demerit point after breaching the WPL Code of Conduct during Delhi’s match against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday.

The incident occurred during Delhi Capitals’ chase of 155 runs. In the 11th over, Lizelle Lee, who was batting confidently on 46, was given out stumped following a lengthy third-umpire review. Replays showed that her bat had momentarily lifted off the crease just as Mumbai’s wicketkeeper Rahila Firdous broke the stumps. The decision meant Lizelle Lee fell just four runs short of what would have been her third half-century of the season.

Following her dismissal, Lizelle Lee admitted to a Level 1 offence related to the misuse of cricket equipment. Under the tournament’s Code of Conduct, such breaches carry fixed penalties and the match referee’s ruling is final. As a result, the fine and demerit point were applied without further hearings.
Despite her visible disappointment, Lizelle Lee maintained her composure later on. During the presentation ceremony, she acknowledged the sharp work of the opposing wicketkeeper and chose not to dwell on the decision.
On the field, Delhi Capitals recovered well from the moment. Skipper Jemimah Rodrigues played a calm and assured innings, remaining unbeaten on 51 from 37 balls to guide her team to a comfortable seven-wicket win. The victory keeps Delhi firmly in the playoff race, with four teams now level on four points, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru continue to sit at the top of the table.
