Even years after its release, 3 Idiots continues to live in the hearts of audiences. One of the film’s most unforgettable moments was the deeply emotional scene where Sharman Joshi’s character Raju attempts su*cide by jumping off a building. The sequence struck a chord with students across the country, especially those dealing with academic pressure and financial struggles.

In a recent interview, Sharman Joshi opened up about how the scene was shaped during filming. He revealed that although everything was carefully planned, simply showing him standing and acting in one spot did not create the impact director Rajkumar Hirani wanted.

To intensify the moment, the team added quick shots of his family — his sister, father and mother, before ending with the visual of a lamp hitting the wall. The scene then cuts to him lying on the floor with his leg twisted, which made the sequence far more powerful.

The emotional weight of the scene was felt not just by audiences but also by those close to the actor. Sharman shared that many people were so moved that they would call his parents to check if he was okay. Even his own daughter, who was just four years old at the time of the premiere, was deeply affected. She reportedly burst into tears during the scene and did not calm down until he picked her up and comforted her by putting her in his lap.
Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, 3 Idiots released in 2009 and starred Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi in lead roles. Despite being over a decade old, the film continues to feel relevant and talk of a sequel has only added to the excitement among fans.

Addressing the rumours, Sharman Joshi said that he hopes a sequel does happen but he has not received any official information yet. He mentioned that similar reports had surfaced earlier as well, but they eventually turned out to be part of an advertisement campaign. This time, however, he hopes the news is true.
When asked if the sequel would continue the original story, Sharman Joshi admitted he has no details. He said that if a sequel is in the works, it would likely be handled by director Rajkumar Hirani, writer Abhijat Joshi and Aamir Khan.

Meanwhile, according to a report by a leading entertainment portal, the script for 3 Idiots 2 has already been locked, and the film is expected to go on floors in 2026. The sequel is also said to bring back the original cast, including Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi. For now, fans can only wait and hope that the beloved story returns to the big screen once again.
