Diljit Dosanjh, known for his soulful singing and effortless acting, has built a career that bridges Punjabi cinema, Bollywood and even international music stages. His charm lies not only in his talent but also in his ability to remain humble and rooted despite global fame. However, for some time now, the actor-singer found himself at the center of a controversy surrounding his film Sardaar Ji 3.
The film came under criticism for featuring Pakistani actress Hania Aamir at a time when tensions between India and Pakistan were escalating. Many questioned the timing of its release and the choice of casting. Breaking his silence, Diljit Dosanjh addressed the matter during his recent concert in Malaysia, offering clarity and heartfelt reflections.
In a video from the event, now viral on social media, Diljit Dosanjh can be seen saluting the Indian National Flag and reminding everyone to always show respect for it. Taking a pause, he sought the audience’s permission to share his thoughts before speaking in Punjabi. He explained that Sardaar Ji 3 had been filmed earlier in February, well before the Pahalgam ter*or att@ck in April. He added that the cricket match between India and Pakistan, which took place in September, happened much later.
Expressing grief over the attack, Diljit Dosanjh said that the entire team had prayed for justice and for those responsible to be punished. He clarified that the controversy stemmed from a misunderstanding of the timeline, emphasising that the film’s production was completed before these tragic events and rising tensions.
The Asia Cup clash between India and Pakistan on September 14 further fueled public emotions. Though India won, the lack of post-match interaction between the two teams highlighted the ongoing strain, which inevitably spilled over into cultural discussions, including the release of Sardaar Ji 3.
Diljit Dosanjh also spoke about the portrayal of his community in the controversy. He expressed disappointment that sections of the media had tried to brand him as anti-national. Firmly, he stated that Punjabis and Sikhs have always stood with the nation and could never be against it.
Sharing more personal feelings, Diljit Dosanjh admitted that he had chosen silence for months despite having many answers to the accusations. He reflected on the importance of not letting negativity consume one’s spirit. “I kept everything inside and did not react,” he explained, noting that while he could say much more, he preferred not to dwell on the controversy any further.

Earlier in an interview, Diljit Dosanjh had offered similar clarification. He explained that when the film was shot, political relations were stable. The decision to release it overseas was purely financial, as the producers had already invested heavily. He acknowledged that the makers were likely to face losses but added that the situation was no longer in their control. Standing by the team, he said that he supported their choice to release the film abroad.
Directed by Amar Hundal, Sardaar Ji 3 features Neeru Bajwa, Gulshan Grover and Sapna Pabbi alongside Diljit Dosanjh. The film was released overseas on June 27. Despite the storm of debates around it, Diljit’s words at his Malaysia concert reminded fans of his sincerity and his commitment to both his art and his country.
