The Indian cricket team registered their straight eighth win in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023 after defeating South Africa by 243 runs in the match which was played yesterday at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Indian cricketer Virat Kohli not only celebrated his 35th birthday with a win but also with his 49th ODI ton and with this century, he has equalled the record of maximum centuries in ODIs which was registered in the name of former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.
The toss was won by the Indian cricket team and they chose to bat first. The Indian openers started well as skipper Rohit Sharma (40 runs) and Shubman Gill (23 runs) produced a partnership of 62 runs in just 6 overs. After these two got out, Virat Kohli (101 runs not out) and Shreyas Iyer (77 runs) stitched a partnership of 134 runs and helped their team in posting a total of 326/5 in their stipulated 50 overs.
The Indian bowlers were once again on fire in this match as they wrapped the whole South African team for just 83 runs in 28 overs and how the Indian bowlers dominated the SA batters can be understood by the fact that 7 batters were not able to touch the double digit mark. Ravindra Jadeja was the highest wicket taker for India in this match as he took 5 wickets in his 9 overs and gave away only 33 runs.
