Yashasvi Jaiswal has once again proved why he is considered one of the most promising young cricketers of India. The 23 years old opener was the star of the show in the first innings of the second Test against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Displaying remarkable patience and elegance, he scored brilliant 175 runs from 258 deliveries, hitting 22 fours along the way. From the very first session, Yashasvi Jaiswal looked in complete control, punishing the West Indies bowlers with fluent drives and confident stroke play that thrilled the Delhi crowd.
His innings gave India the perfect start and laid a solid foundation for a big first-innings total. As he dominated the visiting bowlers on Day 1, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s performance caught the attention of none other than Brian Lara. The legendary West Indian batter, who is currently in Delhi, personally congratulated Yashasvi Jaiswal after his knock.
In a video shared by the BCCI, Brian Lara is seen hugging the young opener and humorously requesting him not to be too harsh on his bowlers (“Don’t beat our bowlers that bad”). The moment reflected the mutual respect between generations of batting greats.

Speaking after his impressive performance, Yashasvi Jaiswal explained his simple but effective approach to batting. He said that his main focus is always on the team’s needs and on staying at the crease for as long as possible. He shared that he constantly assesses the match situation, the condition of the pitch and what shots are best suited at different stages. Once set, his goal is to make his start count by converting it into a big score.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s innings also featured a crucial 193-run partnership for the second wicket with B Sai Sudharsan who contributed composed 87 from 165 balls. Reflecting on their stand, Yashasvi Jaiswal praised Sai Sudharsan’s calmness and technique, saying that the two kept reminding each other to stay focused, rotate the strike and make the most of every scoring opportunity. Their partnership not only frustrated the West Indian bowlers but also showcased India’s strong batting depth.
Yashasvi Jaiswal also reserved high praise for Shubman Gill who continued the momentum with an unbeaten 129. He admired Shubman Gill’s composure and the way he controls the tempo of the game, adding that batting alongside him is always an enjoyable experience. Together, they discussed taking advantage of the new ball and playing with positive intent.
Unfortunately, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s outstanding innings came to an end just short of what could have been his third Test double century. On the second ball of the 92nd over, a mix-up with Shubman Gill led to his run-out, leaving the crowd momentarily disappointed. However, his contribution had already set India on course for a commanding total.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s knock in Delhi not only highlighted his growing maturity but also reaffirmed his position as one of the most reliable batters of India in Test cricket. His ability to blend aggression with patience continues to make him a key player in India’s red-ball future.
