Esha Gupta recently offered a candid glimpse into a painful chapter of her love life, revealing that she was once in a relationship with a Bollywood director whose insecurity and controlling behaviour left her emotionally drained. Speaking in an interview, the actress refrained from naming the man in question but shared troubling details about how he manipulated her self-esteem and tried to pull her down.
She spoke of how the relationship deteriorated over time, especially as the director began to target her insecurities and make belittling remarks about her appearance. Recalling the moment when she decided to end it, Esha explained that she broke up with him over a phone call, a decision that came after reaching her emotional limit.
Although the breakup was initiated by her, she admitted that it felt awful and she called it the most immature split she’s ever experienced. Following the breakup, she blocked him on all platforms, choosing to cut off contact completely.
Esha recounted a particularly humiliating incident during a lunch outing with her sister and best friend, where the director commented on her appearance in front of them. He mocked her oversized glasses and styled hair, accusing her of seeking attention. She remembers responding sharply, telling him that she could attract attention regardless. That moment, she said, marked a breaking point. Tired of enduring such jabs regularly, she chose to walk away.
Her friends and family, who witnessed the way he spoke to her in public, became increasingly concerned about how he might be treating her in private. After ending the relationship, Esha received a number of emails from him but instead of apologies, the messages were laced with abuse and offensive language. She dismissed them as an unfortunate part of post-breakup reactions and said that she tried to move on from it.
Despite the toxic experience, Esha offered a nuanced take on her ex, saying that he might still be an ideal partner for a woman lacking self-confidence, someone who doesn’t mind constantly staying one step behind in the relationship. However, that dynamic was unacceptable for her. She emphasised that she couldn’t be with someone who demanded she shrink herself for the sake of his comfort.
Esha revealed that the relationship lasted about a year and a half. The final straw came when the director tried to mold her into someone she wasn’t, pushing her to change instead of accepting her for who she is.
In the same interview, she cleared up some rumours surrounding her personal life. She firmly denied ever dating an actor and dismissed speculation linking her to filmmaker Sajid Khan. She did, however, confirm that she had briefly spoken to cricketer Hardik Pandya but it never evolved beyond a casual talking stage.
Can you guess who this director was?
