Bollywood actors Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra have long been at the center of dating rumours ever since their debut in Student of the Year. Although neither of them openly confirmed the relationship ever, there have been multiple subtle hints over the years that suggest they were more than just co-stars. One such clue lies in their shared connection to Alia’s beloved cat Edward who, as both have indicated on separate occasions, was a gift from Sidharth during their time together.
The topic resurfaced during a media interaction from the promotional tour of Kalank. In response to a question about whether she had ever made a decision out of anger that negatively impacted others, Alia attempted to keep it neutral. Before she could fully answer, Varun Dhawan playfully interrupted her, asking whether any such decision had ever affected people in her household or her cat. The question caused Alia to respond with a sheepish smile as she maintained that she didn’t believe she had ruined anyone’s life. She admitted that everyone makes rash decisions in anger that they may regret later but she insisted her choices had not been that destructive. Varun’s teasing, however, hinted at a shared understanding, possibly referencing her rumoured breakup with Sidharth.

Over time, Sidharth Malhotra has also alluded to the bond they shared. In a previous episode of Koffee With Karan, when asked what he would like to steal from Alia, Sidharth quickly responded with “The cat… Edward,” clearly pointing to the pet he had once gifted her. He even cautioned viewers against gifting pets to their girlfriends, implying that emotional attachments remain long after relationships end. Alia, on a later appearance on the same show, seemed to confirm the backstory when she openly thanked Sidharth for giving her “the first love of [her] life, Edward”.
Years have passed since their quiet parting and both Alia and Sidharth have moved on into happy new phases of life. Alia is now married to actor Ranbir Kapoor and the couple welcomed their daughter Raha Kapoor. Sidharth too recently became a father to a baby girl with wife Kiara Advani. Though they have yet to announce the child’s name, the news was warmly received. Alia expressed her happiness by liking the couple’s announcement post on Instagram and her mother Soni Razdan extended her blessings in the comments section.
Now as both enjoy family life and parenthood, it’s clear that the chapter may have closed but the memories linger gently, especially in the quiet purring of a cat named Edward.
