After failing to make a significant impact in the opening game in Dharamsala, Ishan Kishan bounced back strongly in Lucknow on May 17. Batting at No. 3 in place of injured Virat Kohli, the left-hander played a brilliant innings of 125 runs from just 79 balls. His knock included 14 boundaries and seven sixes, helping India dominate the contest from the outset.

Ishan Kishan’s century was complemented by an outstanding innings from India captain Shubman Gill who scored 154 runs. The duo stitched together a massive 224-run partnership for the third wicket, laying the foundation for India’s imposing total of 402 runs. Afghanistan, in response, could only manage 232 as India secured a comfortable victory.

Former England spinner Graeme Swann praised Ishan Kishan’s attitude and adaptability, highlighting his willingness to take on any role required by the team. Graeme Swann noted that the batter looked completely at ease despite spending a long period away from the ODI setup, seamlessly fitting back into the side when given the opportunity.

The former cricketer also pointed to the way Ishan Kishan constructed his innings. After a cautious start and a measured first fifty, the batter accelerated dramatically, racing from 50 to 100 in just 19 deliveries. His innings was built on smart shot selection rather than reckless hitting, as he consistently found gaps and forced bowlers to adjust their plans.

Graeme Swann further credited Ishan Kishan for improving specific areas of his game over the past two years. According to him, the batter has worked hard on shots that were once considered weaknesses and has successfully turned them into strengths.

Reaching his century in only 71 balls, Ishan Kishan ensured India’s momentum never dipped. His partnership with Shubman Gill dismantled Afghanistan’s bowling attack and helped India post one of their highest ODI totals in recent years, making his long-awaited return even more special.
