Security on social media has become a big concern nowadays. We have heard of many incidents wherein pics, especially those of girls are downloaded, photoshopped and then misused. This is very common on the famous social media platform Facebook.
However, you’ll thank Facebook for the new protection tool it has introduced in India. This new move by the company will reduce misuse of photos to a great extent. A profile picture guard has been introduced today and it will protect the photo from being downloaded or shared. When you click on your profile picture, you will get the options of turning on the profile picture guard; have a look…
Facebook has tied up with New Delhi’s Centre For Social Research, Learning Links Foundation, Breakthrough and Youth Ki Awaaz, in order to design the new tool. The main aim of introducing such a feature was to keep the users safe.
Product manager at Facebook Aarati Soman said,
“We are piloting new tools that give people in India more control over who can download and share their profile pictures. In addition, we are exploring ways people can more easily add designs to profile pictures, which our research has shown helpful in deterring misuse.”
After analyzing this experience in India, the new tool will be introduced in other countries too.
Soman further added that when this guard is turned on, users won’t be able to download, share or forward the profile picture to anyone. Moreover, even tagging on that photo will be disabled.
New designs
An extra design layer has been added to the profile picture. If you turn on the guard and when you see your photo closely, you will notice that blue design. With this design, there’s 75 percent less likelihood of people copying the picture. In case, someone finds the pic with that design copied, they can immediately report the same to Facebook.
