The 20 years old DU student was trolled, got threats of rape and attracted disgraceful comments for expressing her opinion. Even more amazingly, some celebrities were also indulged in trolling her. She started her campaign against the violent activities of ABVP that they carried out in the Ramjas College.

Gurmehar is the daughter of Kargil martyr Mandeep Singh and she uploaded a video last year to encourage peace between India and Pakistan.

Although she has not disclosed the reasons of her withdrawing the campaign, the threats and insulting comments which she received on social media networks might have played a role in it.

Now Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) has intervened in the matter and sent a notice to Faceboook, asking them to reveal the details of all those who are involved in threatening Gurmehar. In fact, DCW has asked Facebook to deactivate their accounts and furnish their contact details, IP addresses and any other information which can be helpful in catching them.

Swati Maliwal, the chief of DCW, has written the following in the notice issued to Facebook,

“The Commission is in receipt of a complaint from her which is self-explanatory and contains relevant screen shots of rape threats and abuse as evidence. The Commission is of the view that urgent action needs to be taken against the abusers by Facebook and their social media accounts need to be deactivated immediately.”

Delhi Police has also lodged an FIR with regard to this case after DCW has taken up the matter. Facebook needs to submit the details by March 6.

There may be a difference of opinion but rape threats and insulting comments are definitely not acceptable. What do you say? Share your views in this connection in the comments section below.
