The day of love – ‘Valentine’s Day’ is celebrated on 14th February every year but some people have started demanding that this day should be declared as “Black Day” because they are of the opinion that the freedom fighter Bhagat Singh was hanged on 14th February along with Rajguru and Sukhdev.
The Punjab unit of Shiv Sena made the demand of declaring Feb 14 as Black Day last year and this time, Tanaji Ghadge, the Education Officer (Primary), Solapur Zilla Parishad, had ordered all the block education officers and administrative officials to conduct a “gratitude day” in their schools by calling upon the parents of students and making the students perform ‘aarti’ as a way to express gratitude.
The circular reads that schools should pay homage to the three freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country as they were hanged on 14th Feb. However later, the circular was withdrawn after it brought humiliation to the department.
As per the government records, the date of birth of Bhagat Singh is either September 27 or 28, 1907 and he was born at Banga, Jaranwala Tehsil, Lyallpur district, Punjab. When it comes to the date of his hanging, as per the official records, the date of hanging of all the three was 23rd March, 1931 in Lahore (Punjab), which is now a part of Pakistan.
