Fighter Plane Lands Successfully In NH Yamuna Expressway For Emergency Check Purpose

IAF fighter plane Mirage successfully landed on National Highway Yamuna Expressway near Mathura around 6:40 am on Thursday morning. This was an attempt by the Indian Air Force to check the process of emergency and safe landing at highways. It’s a kind of first for military aviation in India to land a fighter plane on public road.

The plan to land fighter plane on highway was under consideration for a long time and finally a step has been taken for it. The best part about the landing on Thursday morning was it was pre-planned, make shift Air Traffic Control, safety services, rescue vehicles, bird clearance parties and other requirements were already checked and cleared by the IAF in before the trial.

“The operation was conducted in coordination with district magistrates and superintendents of police of Agra and Mathura,” an IAF statement said

IAF officials said such landings can be carried out in emergencies if an active airport is not available under certain circumstances.

Presently, countries like Germany, Poland, Sweden, South Korea, Taiwan, Finland, Switzerland, Poland, Singapore and Pakistan have this system of landing aircraft in highway for emergency purpose.
