“The Blue Whale Game” on the internet is a dangerous game and has got a tag of being the “Suicide game”. Has the same game led to the suicide of a 14 year old boy in Mumbai?
Yes, a teenager named Manpreet Sahans has jumped off the terrace of a 7 floors building in Andheri on Saturday. Reports say that he became the first victim of this Blue Whale game in India.
For those who don’t know what Blue Whale game is!
Basically, this game originated in Russia and it goes on for 50 days. In this 50 day challenge, participants have to perform 49 deadly tasks, which lead to nothing but self harm. Proofs of successful accomplishment of tasks have to be given through videos or photographers; the last part of the task is to suicide by jumping off the terrace of the building. Every player is assigned a game admin, who monitors all the tasks done. If players try backing out, admins threaten them that they’ll harm family members. So, it’s not so easy to back out once the challenge starts.

Why police feels Manpreet was a victim of Blue Whale?
Manpreet’s WhatsApp chats were collected by the Police, after which, they got to know that he was addicted to the challenge. But when police officials spoke to Manpreet’s parents, they said he wasn’t depressed at all.
As of now, an ADR i.e. Accidental Death Report has been filed.
On Saturday, Sahans went to the terrace and sat there for 20 minutes. While sitting on the terrace’s parapet, he spoke to his friends on social media and also told them that he’s all set to end his life. Unfortunately, none of them took him seriously
An official said,
“On Saturday, a neighbour from a building adjoining the boy’s spotted the teenager on the terrace, walking on parapet while shooting what seemed to be a selfie video. The boy then jumped off and killed himself.”
According to investigations, Sahans had been using the internet to search for ways to jump from the terrace. This search was done by Sahans two days before he committed suicide. An insider informed that Sahans, while leaving school on Friday, had told his friends that he wouldn’t be coming to school on Monday.
DCP Navinchandra Reddy said,
“The parents have not given any information on the reason of suicide, they are in state of shock. We are investigating the case in all possible angles.”

The way the boy committed suicide hints towards a link to Blue Whale, but since parents didn’t complain of any depression signs in him, there’s no surety.
Currently, investigation is going on and very soon, police will arrive at some conclusion. Let’s wait and watch.
