Dangal is an Indian biographical sports drama film, based on the sotry of Mahavir Singh Phogat who taught wrestling to his daughters Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat. For those who are unfamiliar with these names, Geeta Phogat was India’s first female wrestler to win at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, she won the gold medal (55 kg) while her sister Babita Kumari won the silver (51 kg). Aamir Khan and the entire crew of Dangal were trained by Indian women’s wrestling team coach based in Indore.
Nitesh Tiwari who directed Bhoothnath Returns and co-directed Chillar Party with Vikas Behl is the director of Dangal. Sakshi Tanvar will be playing the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat’s wife in the film.
Earlier it was reported that Aamir Khan releasing the trailer of his wrestling biopic a day before Diwali and attaching it with the prints of ‘Shivaay’ and ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’. But then dropped the idea. This month, Mr. Perfectionist held a special screening of the film for his industry colleagues. Everyone applauded the film and the performances, the critics are even calling it the best film of the decade.
In a recently held private screening, Aamir Khan showed ‘Dangal’ to his industry friends. Karan Johar was left speechless after watching the film, he tweeted,
